This project represents a new initiative for Highly Sprung Performance, a charity dedicated to developing ambitious and accessible work with and for children and young people. By creating dynamic, exciting, and bold physical performances, Highly Sprung transforms the lives of thousands of children and young people each year. They conduct workshops for over 5,000 children and young people and reach an audience of nearly 40,000 through their touring performances across the UK and globally. Their work inspires children and young people to discover their talents and express their voices, laying the groundwork for improved futures through impactful physical theatre. #documentary #support #family Dementia affects many people in our community , but it does not stop people being able to live fulfilling lives , given the importance of socialising and friendship, where better to make connections than in a music group. The idea for this group grew out of many conversations with people living with dementia and their family and friends . Somewhere to meet, to talk, to laugh and to sing , to remember old songs and learn new ones , somewhere to talk about old memories and somewhere to build some new ones . The group meets twice a month at the Maltings, Berwick-upon-Tweed for two hours per session, starting with tea , coffee, traybakes and chat. The group is led by Sam Lord, a professional musician who brings a sense of fun, a dynamic personality, and a host of ‘friends’ . Twice a month we walk or dance down memory lane , from post war songs to Bill Haley, much loved band music to the Beatles , folk songs and sea shanties , old favourites and soon to be new ones . The children of St Mary’s first school also join us for some sessions, singing and dancing with us and to us, and bringing fun and laughter in all they do. The group is free to attend, transport is provided if needed, anybody living with dementia must come with a friend or family member. The Inclusive Communities Fund is part of the West Midlands Combined Authority’s (WMCA) Commonwealth Games Legacy Enhancement Fund, which is using the underspend from the Games to ensure the positive legacy is felt right across the region and for many years to come. Hani Abbasi and his band broke out the guitars, keys and drums one afternoon at El Vermut, Nunhead, South East London. Our cameras were there to capture the moment. Hani Abbasi is a London-based alternative rock artist, originally from Ilkley, West Yorkshire. In the mid 2010s he relocated to Shanghai where he became part of the underground music scene. It was during this otherworldly creative period that his debut album The Polar Route was written and recorded. Released in 2018, The Polar Route was praised by critics, MusicNews.com stating that “for a debut album it is quite remarkable”, and A&R Factory describing it as “futuristic Britpop”. Hani Abbasi's music has also been described as a marriage of Underworld and Rolling Stones-esque rock swagger, with a lyrical drive akin to Suede and the Manic Street Preachers.
